3. Emotional Wellbeing

At the Academy 4 Wellbeing we understand that the path to healthy, sustainable weight loss requires great willpower and mental strength. That understanding the reasons for overeating and learning how to change our behaviours are the keys to success.

Through a combination of workshops, led by Dr Anthony Schwartz, Consultant psychologist and visiting professor at Staffordshire University, and directed Mindfulness Practice group sessions led by our open natured staff, in a supportive environment, we seek to help you do this by:

  • Participating in self-reflection and centering activities that encourage awareness of the Individual’s need for change.
  • Understanding the reasons for food addictions and triggers and Emotional and Stress Eating.
  • Outlining Ideas from Cognitive Behavioural Psychology to “Reprogramme thinking” including Mindful eating and practice.
  • Mindfulness forms part of the “third wave’ of Cognitive Behavioural Therapies. The emphasis is less on controlling our thoughts and emotions, but rather recognising and accepting how they are and changing how we react to them.
  • Challenging negative thoughts and beliefs
  • Engaging in positive self-talk
  • Reframing to look at things differently
  • Reinforcing positives
  • Self-affirmation, reinforcement
  • Visualising success
  • Avoiding ‘all-or-nothing’ thinking
  • Exploring Body Image
  • Introducing the use of a small ‘memory card’ or touchstone for people to have, for instance which highlights the Mindfulness Process.
  • Introduce the use of Journaling.
  • Developing your knowledge of how your emotional wellbeing affects your physical and nutritional wellbeing.
